If you are looking for a villain, look in the mirror. We all do harm with our cars, houses, food, everything. Don't fall into the cheap shot of blaming big business. Remember, we all buy what big business makes.

Just a little FYI -- the first Earth Day was in April of 1970, making this the 36th anniversary.

A comment on local efforts-I am sick and tired of seeing all the kids in this community getting chauffered to school or each taking their own BMW,Hummer, Mercedes, each and every day. Earth Day mentality begins at home!

We Americans need to curb our appetite for gasoline. Public service announcements should be stepped up like they were in the 70's. The speed limit should be lowered to 55. And the price of gas is just where it should be, if not higher, because with our mentality, use will go up as soon as the price of gas decreases.
Incentives should be given to those who own gas efficient vehicles, and increased taxes should be levied on those who want to drive guzzlers. This is one area where more government is needed, because, we won't do it on our own.
We have a great asset in our community...free bus service...make an effort to use it, even just once a week would be a great start!

Park City is a study in contrast. Most of the yuppies here claim to be enviromentalist yet they drive around in gas guzzling SUVs. They don't have their children ride the school bus, they either chauffer them one by one to school or give them their own car to drive. They yell if someone harms a tree but they live in these million dollar homes with huge beams and hard wood floors. What a bunch of hypocrites!

Our local governing bodies have let us down...it is time they suck it up and take responsibility for their collective greed.
Do we really need to have another golf course at The Canyons? Well, the county is insisting that this get put in...why? So they cannot be sued!
Why is the Talisker development asking for more units? So they can make more money! They have known all along the ways of our government...far too many of these revisements have gone through to make these atrocities bigger and more energy-sucking. It's not a case of Talisker working their numbers wrong, quite the contrary...they are smart enough to get their foot in the door and then cry about how if it goes through as orignially concieved, they, WAH, can't make the numbers crunch! What a joke. If they can't make their original proposal work, then, oh well, maybe they can make some cuts in that original plan, perhaps don't put in that hot tub, heated driveway, pool, teakwood from the rainforest, etc....make it work! The onus should not be on the people of this community to have to live with these all too numerous eyesores, and non-green developments.
Our city, county and state bureaucrats need to stand up and get tough on all development...Kentucky bluegrass should not even be allowed into this state! Just recently, I read in the Park Record that we, gee, used 64 million more gallons of water last year. How could this have happened?! Hmmm.....let me think, how about our record-setting growth and building boom? It was attributed to peoples' perception that our drought is over, and while that is indeed a possibility, we should not rule out all of our greedy development.
Park City rates a big fat ZERO on it's Earth Day report card.

Earth day is crap!

There, I said it. We all believe it and only stinky hippies actually honor it.
