On a local level patisan politics is a different animal. In Summit County the county commissioners and county department heads run on a party ticket but these days it is hard to tell who's who. Last week two prominent members of the Summit County Democratic Party formed a political action committee that appears to be funneling funds to a Republican commission candidate.
Understanding the myraid issues facing Summit County already adding political lables to the mix may be misleading. Do you think county elected positions should be nonpartisan? Or is the party process beneficial to the community?

Party labels are not the issue, the quality of politician in Summit County is the issue. The quality of representation is extremely poor.
The Democrats are not what you may think. They have been infiltrated by ultra-conservatives who have no allegiance to the philosphies of the party.
What they care about is getting re-elected, and to do that they call themselves Democrats to get West side votes, but East side voters know who they really are. So that way they get both group's support. Ask these Democrats in Name Only (DINOS) what philosphies they share with the party. You will find few similarities. They are in it for their own purposes, and not for the public.
hear ye, hear ye.
The DINOS are practicing dirty politics...they should be ashamed.
If you are unhappy with the quality of your elected officials then become involved. But be willing to put in the time, effort and money. The more non-politicans we have in office, the better. If not you then who? If not now, then when?
Tired of the same R & D choices? Consider voting for a third party candidate. It is not a wasted vote. Voting for the lesser of two 'evils' is still voting for 'evil'. Voting for the same means all you'll ever get is the same.
Open letter to Jay at the Park Record regarding Park Record reporting bias!
Jay Cheeseburger or whomever it may concern,
Sweet piece in the June 7th Park Record entitled "Democratic chief told to resign" (http://parkrecord.com/todaysheadlines/ci_3906215).
You state:
They {Democratic Party} also are coveting the 53rd District of the Utah House of Representatives. David Ure, the popular Republican incumbent, is seeking a spot in the Utah Senate, leaving the 53rd District an open seat. Democrat Laura Bonham and Republican Mel Brown are the major-party candidates for the seat.
This is the second time in three weeks that you mention two of the three candidates for the 53rd District House seat. Amazingly, it happens to be yours truly left unmentioned both times. You think you got around it this time by stating 'major-party' candidates. Unfortunately, if you had done your research you would know that the Libertarian Party is on the ballot in all 50 states and is the third largest party. I'd say that's not minor. You obviously have an agenda and it doesn't include reporting the full and complete, honest news.
After this June 7th piece your email to me essentially stating that I should have been mentioned in the May 17th piece was a lie. Rest assured I will not stop here. I am documenting the Park Record bias on my campaign web site (www.voteshumway.org), I will modify my ad on your home page so that it mentions your bias (you'll take my ad money but can't bring yourselves to report the news truthfully), I will be writing editorials exposing your bias, and anything else I can do to bring your deceitfulness to the attention of the public.
I'd like to make one last suggestion. Based on your 'reporting' you should change the name of the paper from Park Record to Crock Record.
Most sincerely,
Gary Shumway, CCP,MA,MPH,MBA
Libertarian Candidate
Utah State Representative, District 53
