Absent or excused?
This year, Park City High School changed its policy regarding excused absences from classes. Some competitive athletes say the new rules are unfair and force them to choose between pursuing a special talent and meeting their academic requirements. Is the new policy too stringent or is the school district justified in more closely regulating when kids can miss school? Some say that because Park City is a ski-oriented town, the schools should find a way to support competitive young athletes. Others, though, say sports shouldn't interfere with education and allowing some kids to miss classes puts an undue strain on teachers and other students. What do you think?

Nan,
It might help get individuals to respond to your question if they knew the parameters surrounding the question.
I searched The Park Record for 'excused absences', 'athlete new rules', 'athlete absences', etc. I received no matches.
I do not have the time to search the internet for these new rules just to respond to this blog.
Thus if you would point us to the rules in question or place a link in your question to the new rules then maybe some would opine.
Until then, I too will have to take an excused absence.
