The War in Iraq

This week we note the third anniversary of the war in Iraq. Some will mark the day by marching in protest against the war. Some will take time to express their support for the troops who are serving there. How do you feel about the United States presence in Iraq. Has our involvement made a difference for the people there? And where do we go from here? Please click on "comments" below to add your voice to the debate.

Freedom ain't free! Stay the course W. The people of Park City support you -- especially Mayor Dana Williams. In return, just make sure you serve the Park City Council some of your greasiest federal pork. We need water!

bedeea, bedeea, bedeea -- that's all folks

Bush can barely articulate a thought. I've heard third graders that speak better. Scary. "W" is nepotism at its worst. Of course, "nepotism" is just the privileged population's form of affirmative action - it's no better.

Ooooh, the old 'third graders that speak better' argument, real effing original man! W. has never heard that one!

How do YOU suggest the U.S. maintain its foothold in oil-rich Mesopotamia as you and your H2 suck the ground dry here at home?

Obviously a moron like you can't even define the word nepotism.

Apparently, Dana Williams thinks war's a good idea because he hasn't spoken a peep against occupation.

Well, for as much of an idiot Bush is, we are there now and can't just pull out, it would be the worst thing to do to the people of Iraq at this point.

although i think that the topic at hand deserves a bit more respect, i do have to laugh (or cry) at the truth of the statement: ". . .just make sure you serve the Park City Council some of your greasiest federal pork. We need water!"

A truer statement rarely is made in Park City!

As the mother of a US Marine who loves and supports her son I say
"GET THE F#** OUT OF IRAQ!"

We really are accomplishing little if anything at this time.

Don't we have an obligation to clean up our mess?

Clean up our mess with the lives of our military?
Did we clean up the mess in Vietnam - maybe we stayed there so we could have that HUGE wall in Washington DC. Hey, there's an idea - we could build a wall along our southern border and put all the names from Iraq 1, Iraq 2 and Afganistan. Now there's a reason to stay.
It certainly seems easy to sit back in our SUV's and million dollar homes and shout "stay the course"

How can you not see that if we don't make this work, civil war will break out and many more will die than if we stay?

I guess Iraqi lives are less important.

Civil war has broken out and our presence will not effectively hinder that. The longer we stay the more reasons for the people in the middle east to hate us. Let's try to keep the civil unrest in Iraq to a minimum so as to what? sure up our oil supplies!? At >$70 a barrel the US does not seem to be even able to accomplish that.

I am not a military person, but the retired military powers that can now exercise their 1st amendment rights are saying "get out!". I can only assume that they understand better than I. Most of them lived thru Vietnam, Iraq 1 and now Iraq 2. I have to agree with them.

Are Iraqi lives less important - less important than what? Lives in Darfur, Sudan, Bosnia, Rowanda, Ghana, . . .
All human life is important-not just the lives of those living above the oil.

Man, I'm glad we have Bush making the decisions instead of the pathetic group of morons posting on this blog.

Give me a break!

When forming opinions, only facts should be used not uninformed, simplistic, emotional outbursts designed by political opposition such as 'Bush lied' (So too then did every single congressional member who after reviewing the same exact intelligence the President viewed voted to go into Iraq). Lying is too simplistic a phrase when examining the big political picture. Note: Carter is responsible for changing our intel system in the 70's and outsourcing it to offshore private companies in the interest of saving American operative's lives. While any President probably would have made that decision at the time, in retrospect a bad one.
Historical facts include:
Hussein killed hundreds of thousands of his own people and used WMD such as mustard gas in the process. He promised the world via SEVENTEEN 17 UN resolutions that he would not only destroy the WMD he had USED in the past but he would also show the world PROOF of its destruction. He never did. Now, if YOU were President, knowing that - what would you do? Draw another line in the sand and trust someone who had a history of using WMD , torturing his own citizens and invading neighboring countries (Kuwait ...) In lieu of 911, if this same dictator was allowing Zarqawi and two other high level AQ operatives to make refuge in their apartments in Iraq, what would you do? Hussein's own generals are on the record as having said that WMD was shipped to Syria. There are video tapes with audio of Hussein discussing how to hide and move items from the UN inspectors. Knowing what we know today about Hitler and other dictators who committed atrocities while the world allowed it, what would you do? We made our decision. We have to stay the course.
