Olympic Obsession
Post your comments about all things Olympic from TV coverage to doping regulations. Should NBC broadcast the sports as they happen or was it a good idea to run the events during prime time, long after results are in? Is kicking a guy out of the Games for using a hair growth product a bit excessive? Do you think the new scoring system for the figure skating will really keep the judges honest? And would you like to see the Olympics come back to Utah? Just click on comments below and use the "anonymous " option to rant without having to register.

It's just not the same watching results online....and it is impossible to avoid hearing about the results before they air on the tube...kinda frustrating
Thank God for the performances of Ted L., Shaun W. and a handful of others on the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team. These are the ambassadors who prevent complete idiots (who are even bigger losers) like Bode M. and that freakin' boardercross chick, from portraying that All American image of undeserved arrogance. Those two are an embarrassment to the US of A! Jesus, boardercross isn't brain surgery baby -- nice grab!
However, had US Ski and Snowboard not won a medal perhaps we would be spared for the next four years from listening to that boob Tom Kelly incessantly pimp this group of rejects. By the way, Tom K. doesn't declare his conflicts of interest so take everything he says with the proverbial 'grain.'
Sorry, it needed to be said. Thanks Ms. Chalat-Noaker for providing the forum
I'm out -- anonymous
Utah proved corruption should be an Olympic sport. Why did Myles Rademan's dog go to work at the Marsac Building even when Myles was on vacation? Was the city paying Myles's assistant for dog sitting all day?
Let me get this straight. Bode said he wasn't trying to win anything so he actually achieved his goal -- that logic works only in TomKellyland -- where facts never slow down lying PR lackeeeeez ........ Welcome back stateside US Ski Team, we're so proud of you -- yeah right!
The skiing and boarding sports are still my favorites, but I'll admit that a couple of those girls on the USA Curling Team are hot! Yes, I watched some of the figure skating too, but the pain of listening to Dick Button all these years overwhelms all the pleasure of watching athletic, acrobatic young women in amazing outfits doing spins. Ted and Julia are great, in large part because they just shut the hell up and went for it. Housecleaning at USSA should continue; we aren't there yet. Shaun really impresses me; one day he's hangin' out in PC making runs and riding the chair with local kids, then he's in Turin winning a gold medal, then back here practicing in the super pipe, then back over there for the closing night. Good kid. We are so lucky to live here. I look forward to the 2008 games being closer to our time zone, and I think we should all go after 2018 or 2022.
I can only agree with the comments regarding Tom K. and the embarrassments of the other members of the Alpine & boardercross team. Gee, if it weren't for the donations from USSA supporters, these individuals (including the incompentent staff) would not be going to the Olympics.
The NBC Olympic coverage was just plain horrid. They should show events in real time and forgo prime time coverage. If they can't do it, give it to another network that can. Bode Miller never predicted any medals and admittedly hasn't been skiing his best all season. He was the best in the world last year, not this year. To just "turn it on" isn't a realistic or fair expectation for anybody at the Olympic level. Let's get this straight, it's the media that puts these athletes on podium before they even compete.
I have watched our team do hours & hours & years of practice, they work very hard! The media should be ashamed for how they talk about these athletes! Most of these athletes have a very heavy schedule of training & doing events every week! I would like to see the audience do these kinds of sports & schedules! You would think, however that there would be an etiquette class when somene makes the team! The media, however, is right there using the worst comments on air!
Our Olympic athletes, young and "not as young", winners and "didn't quite put it together", should all be embraced for their dedication and love of the sports they work so hard at. Unless you have dedicated your every breath to the dream of being an Olympian, you have no right to try to diminish these athletes and their dreams. I grew up in Park City training 7 days a week with the "Olympic Dream" very real to me, and it is a very lofty goal to reach. Tom Kelly has done a great job with the resources he has, and would not be doing his job if he didn't protect his athletes as if they were his own children. Instead of trying to objectify every action, and find a negative spin on every "Olympic Story", perhaps you should look to the true source of your anger; that you wanted to hear your own anthem play a little more than it did!! Congratulations to all the Olympians, for acheiving a wonderful dream. Oh, and one more thing...we were all young at one time...we all have made mistakes. It is how we learn from them that defines us. Keep the Dream Alive!!!
I'm no Olympics expert, but it looked like the American Team was full of big ego, low morals and even less real talent. As far as dedicating "your every breath to the Olympic Dream", well, it certainly didnt look like it when our athletes laughed off horrendus losses, partied like rock stars and "Grabbed Big Air" only to fall outside the course and take home a silver. Nice job. Great display of that 7 day a week dedication, athletic drive and maturity you described. If they were as dedicated as you said maybe they would have taken the whole event seriously and not embarassed the rest of the nation with their pathetic hijinks and mediocre performances. I'm not upset because they didnt win, I am upset because they didnt care enough to even try.
