Love it or leave it?

President George W.Bush is coming to town on Wednesday and while many are planning to give the Prez a warm welcome, others are planning to air their grievances with the current administration. Among those who plan speak out against the war in Iraq among other Bush-led policies is Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson. So, is this the American way or is it treason? Let us know what you would say to the President (or Rocky) if you had a chance to visit with him one-on-one this week.

Rocky has opened his mouth and removed all doubt. To paraphrase the line from "The Bridges of Toko Ri," "Where do they GET fools like this?" JD

"So, is this the American way or is it treason?"

What kind of a question is this ???
What kind of America do you live in, where questioning the government may EVER be considered treason?
Is this the Park Record, or a 20 year old edition of Pravda.
Please have an editor check for STUPIDITY, when posing questions to the public. Your invitation to comment is welcome, but your phrasing is patently offensive.

I'd tell President Bush he needs to pull back the tax cuts and perhaps request a tax increase to fully fund military personnel, equipment and operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. He's doing a half-assed job right now and we're all losing because of it. Hopefully, McCain or a yet-to-be-identified Democrat will have the competence needed for the job.

I'd tell Rocky to stop harping on Bush's lying. Rocky is being just as divisive as Rumsfeld-Cheney et al. Unless he's going to sue the President, it's a moot point to talk about Bush's dishonesty. Bottom line is it'll be worse if we leave before an Iraqi government is set up. We desperately need a plan to get the Iraqi government, police and military functioning so we can get out!

Who says the 'bottom line' is that it will be worse? How do you know? That's just party line. And why should we sacrifice all of the benefits the countless billions could produce in this country trying to impose a military 'solution' on a social, religious and political problem in Iraq? It's their country, let them sort it out. Perhaps UN advisers might be helpful for rebuilding infrastructure, but this virtually unilateral military approach is nothing but poorly concealed oil greed.

Arts, medicine, education, Katrina relief, alternative energy research, hydrogen car subsidies, etc, etc, all suffer because of this stupid war, not to mention loss of credibility in the US gov. at home and abroad. Not only is opposition not treason, it is every citizen's moral imperative.

Of course people have a right to speak, question and protest. But that doesn't mean the protesters are immune from criticism themselves. That also doesnt mean that the protesters can't be called any name in the book people want to call them. It goes both ways. Rocky's big mistake was to invite Cindy Sheehan, who has been publicly backed by the KKK for her statements saying that US foreign policy is being run by a cabal of Jews. Just because she lost her son, doesn't mean she isn't nuts. Rocky should be carefull with whom he associates.

Although I don't agree with all President Bush has done, I think Rocky Anderson is wrong in supporting a protest against him. I think this generation has done much to hurt our children in not teaching respect and honor. We are free to disagree with things that happen, but we still need to respect others and especially the leaders of our country. No one can be 100% happy 100% of the time (regardless of Republican or Democrat President). Respect should be taught at home, but our elected officials should set examples. I am ashamed of and disapointed in Rocky Anderson.

Cindy Sheehan and the KKK!?! - oh please!

Interesting how "Moral Imperatives" only apply to Liberal ideals these days.

Rocky is an embarrasment to himself, this region and the Democratic Party he represents. He has obviously forgotten the "Dignified" portion of being a Dignitary. This is why "We Democrats" are never taken seriously.

Rocky looked like a lunatic ranting on the steps of the courthouse. Have some dignity for petes sake.

There are times here in Park city where one feels they are surrounded by idiots. It is amazing that liberals want free speech until you disagree with their way of thinking. I am convinced that "liberalism" is a mental disease.

Amen to the last blogger.

Just because you have the freedom to do something does not mean you should exercise it. One blogger spoke of respect and that is something we have lost in this country.

Certainly it is not "treason" to question but it is "treason" to work against the country you are a citizen of. Leaking information to the enemy via the media is treasonous. This country provides all the intel our enemies need to attack us. Touting that pres Bush has not done enough is all you need to say. But giving examples like "our ports are unprotected" is telling our enemy where to attack. Use common sense! Would a boxer tell his coach that he has not trained him enough to fight right in front of his opponent? NO!

"I'm with Rocky...let's not do another Vietnam. 7:40 pm" said the first blogger. If you are going to fight a war then you commit with all your resources to win and as quickly as possible. We have not captured old "Binny" because the democrats and others in Washington have our military hog tied, just like Vietnam. And yes I know about that, my father served in it and I was alive at that time and old enough to remember the aftermath.

Liberals sabotaged us at that time and they are doing it again. You cannot fight a war with flowers.

I'm and not saying that war is the answer but if you are going to fight then do it right and leave the politics out and let our military do it's job and get it over with.

This war will not be won with military might alone and if that were the case then this would have been over the first few days.

1. The PR war is one that we are losing on 2 fronts. Our enemy is better at it than we are. They hide behind innocents and claim we are murderers and they gain support for there cause. Our very one Liberal politicians and citizens claim the same thing and demand we withdraw. All the while they claim that terrorism evil and we must defeat the enemy. So which is it? Are we the good guys or the bad guys? It cannot be both ways. If you think we are wrong then you do not believe in America and what it stands for. In that case you should denounce your citizen ship and get the heck out!

If you just believe that there may be a better way to "fight" then come up with a plan and make your voice heard. But don't be a defeatist by spewing anti-American rhetoric or worse, give the enemy the information they need to win. That my fellow so called Americans is treason by definition!

In defense of the liberal, we would not have the balance that is necessary in this country. Without them conservation and social progress would not be the same.

Balance is the key word and right now the two parties are not even on the same scale. This is very sad.

Yes, there are many issues in our own country that need attention. Most can be solved by a sound family structure and getting back to some basics like common sense.

The federal government and military is fighting a war on our behalf. Men and women of all walks of life are putting there lives on the line for us. Se we can continue wearing our Birkenstocks and tie-dye shirts or typing away on our laptops while drinking our Starbucks coffee. So we may still enjoy our football with pizza and beer, or water skiing in our gas guzzling boat that we dropped with our giant gas guzzling SUV.

We all have different points of view and we all have different lives. Whether you are a Liberal, Conservative or Independent we all enjoy living in this "free" country together. Let's keep it that way and not fight each other but focus on the enemy. We can have all the debate we want before or after but not during. You just prolong an ugly thing, WAR.

Hugo Chavez is moving to Park City. Folks in this town would have him as the Grand Mashall of the 4th of July Parade since he sounds so much like the libs that live here!
